Nativitas Domini

Nativitas Domini is a volume of 23 new choral compositions dedicated to Christmas time. For some time Feniarco had been planning the realisation of a collection of Christmas choral compositions to be distributed throughout the country. The name, Nativitas Domini, refers to the national program of concerts called Nativitas Italia - which every year, from Advent to Epiphany, gathers more than 1000 musical events and ideally unites our choral world in this period of expectation and celebration.

The idea of Nativitas Domini was also born from several requests from the choirs that, in this period more than ever, need to expand their repertoire for the numerous appointments that accompany the festivities. For the realisation of this project, Feniarco involved all the Italian regions and had the honor and pleasure to collaborate with the Ecumenical Community of Bose, which we sincerely thank, which was entrusted with the choice of texts to be set to music. Some were written specifically for the occasion and others were taken from their Hymnal.

Through their works, the 23 composers - one from each region (or autonomous province) as well as two additional authors thanks to the involvement of our partners Pueri Cantores and Südtiroler Chorverband - have lent their musical sensitivity by grafting it onto texts that the Community of Bose wanted to donate to Feniarco for this enlightened journey.

As underlined by President Galvani, the writings, in their simplicity, give us an impalpable depth that goes beyond the tenderness of the human event, thus bringing back the centrality on the mercy of the Trinitarian God and make themselves bearers of an original authoritativeness that transforms the announcement from its eschatological dimension to a historical event.

A choral collection that, in both concert and liturgical performances, celebrates the word and music in contemplation of the mystery of faith through the natural expressiveness of the voices of our choirs in a melting pot of simplicity, silence, wonder and joy of the spirit.
